Alphabet
The elements of an alphabet are identical with those in a set of symbols. The difference is that an alphabet has an internal order. A set of symbols is an unordered collection.
Two different symbols of an alphabet can be compared because each symbol has a fixed position within the alphabet. This position provides the values for logical comparisons.
('a' is less than 'b', 'c' is greater than 'b').
