JPEG
JPEG is one of the most usual formats for the compression of image data, especially for pictures or photo-realistic representations. The name JPEG (mostly pronounced Jay-Peg) is taken from the common name for the working group, which had developed this data format: the Joint Photographic Experts Group.
Development, evaluation and standardization had been carried out between 1982 and 1987; since 1992 JPEG is defined as international standard (ISO/IEC IS 10918).
