Processing and Archiving

A lossless version exists in none of the MPEG specifications (as far as known). This has to be taken into consideration for the dimensioning of archiving and editing systems.

The main problem results from compression artifacts, which will be accumulated by each working step. Within a production chain, like used for broadcasting studios, this may cause serious distortions.
