GIF87a

The first version of GIF already provides all functions and characteristics as mentioned previously. It was specified 1987 and is part of the follow-up version in its substantial structure.

GIF87a was already created with perspective to functional extension. The layout provides optional "extension blocks", which are used in GIF87a only for unspecific information created by the producers.

The abilities as defined by the extended version GIF89a are however of substantial importance for the usage in context with internet publications.
