GIF - Standard Colour Tables

The integration of an individual colour table is not inevitably necessary, instead a standard table my be used. Most applications provide such tables.

Some applications, like MS-Paint 5.1, apply these tables with the export into GIF in any case. The user does not have any influence; an automatic optimization does not take place.

If the picture uses colours not included within the standard, they have to be emulated with other available colours by a raster process. This may cause a strong impairment on the subjective impression.

It is recommended to work with applications offering an appropriate set of options. At "Examples" a GIF file generated with MS-Paint is provided and compared with optimized variants.
