GZIP OS Platforms
GZIP was originally developed for a Unix environment. In the meantime nearly every operating system will be supported. Source code and executables are available free of charge or are already part of various Linux distributions. Besides, most of the commercial applications support GZIP at least for decoding.
Further information about projects and support is available at gzip.org.
Compatibility problems primarily occur due to different file naming conventions. The main reasons are incompatible definitions for special characters (e.g. the usage of a slash '/').
