The CCITT is the standardization organisation of the post and telecommunication companies. The CCITT has been merged to the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) in 1992.

The CCITT founded in 1865 is a joint organisation which has been formed by the national societies. The subject of the standardization efforts are postal service, telegraphy, telephone and telecommunications. Furthermore there are far-reaching participations at other projects, such as JPEG.
